TED talks that shouldn't be missed

I frequently watch and re-watch a few talks that are given on ted.org and I figured it might be worth listing a few of my favorite talks that moved me.
Tony Robbins: Why we do what we do, and how we can do it better
Sir Ken Robinson: Do schools kill creativity?
Mark Bittman: What's wrong with what we eat
Barry Schwartz: The paradox of choice
Vilayanur Ramachandran: A journey to the center of your mind
Jonathan Haidt: The real difference between liberals and conservatives

GoogleHacks: Has anyone not seen this yet?

Google Hacking is a term that refers to the act of creating complex search engine queries in order to filter through large amounts of search results for information related to computer security. In its malicious format it can be used to detect websites that are vulnerable to numerous exploits and vulnerabilities as well as locate private, sensitive information about others, such as credit card numbers, social security numbers, and passwords.

There are loads of YouTube videos out there about it, there are applications that help do it for you.... but really all one honestly needs is a good reference for creating queries and maybe a good database of other people's custom Google queries.

It amazes me how many people I run into are unaware of Google's advanced features and their implications.

here are some fun ones...
Webcams: intitle:”Live View / - AXIS” | inurl:view/view.shtml^
FrontPage Passwords: "# -FrontPage-" inurl:service.pwd
Recycle bins....: "index of" inurl:recycler
People Running a web server on their (windows) desktop.....and left indexing turned on:intitle:"index of" "parent directory" "desktop.ini" site:dyndns.org

one for the road..... ;) if this doesn't scare you.. you don't get it..

Problems with current Identification systems

This is a very brief (but informative/interesting) set of highlights from a talk on the problems that exist in current implementations of identification systems. (especially the impact on the voting process...)

The I.D. Divide - Identification in America HIGHLIGHTS (00:07:41)

Here's 2 other related clips of Bruce Schneier explaining the problems with ID systems.

John Gray: Why Mars and Venus Collide

This is an overview of many of the talking points for the book "Why Mars and Venus Collide: Improving Relationships by Understanding How Men and Women Cope Differently with Stress" by it's author John Gray. I saw this and I don't know that I agree with absolutely everything being said (without more context) but I think there were many valid points that are worth being exposed to. If you've read Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus you should give this a listen.

I got a great deal of validation out of this and I think it may have given me new tools to deal with life in general. It's actually pretty funny too.

a brisk walk through basic networking (a high level view)

I ran across these randomly on youtube and liked them. They don't really go too far in depth on anything but they do cover alot in a small amount of time and give a decent overview. Good for folks trying to get started in networking. worth a glance.

Mythbusters RFID show killed

I read this on Slashdot and thought it would have been interesting, but not a very new idea. For those still interested, I believe this was the gist of what they were going to show.

Colbert Report: The New AT&T

this was worth a tentative laugh.

Holy Smokes: Mozilla Labs Ubiquity

I recently saw the Ubiquity demo so i installed it and started walking through the User tutorial/command creation tutorial... just wow. There are so many applications for this interface. I would love to see some security related tools and man if you are a fan of greasemonkey... please get on board.

This looks like a great application for mouse haters.

Here is a quick demo:

Police Encounters

I was stumbling recently and found an interesting set of videos regarding what to do in police encounters... there is genuinely some good info in here.

Part 1: "Don't talk to the Police" by Professor James Duane (27 min)

Part 2: "Don't Talk to the Police" by Officer George Bruch (21 min)

I have seen this one quite a few times before but is definitely worth mentioning if you have never seen it.
